第二、三天  参观堪培拉的景点

堪培拉(Canberra)是澳大利亚首都，是联邦政府、国会及外国使馆的所在地，也是澳洲的政治中心。和澳大利亚其他州相比，堪培拉算是非常小的，南北长只有80公里，宽只有30公里。堪培拉的四周是美丽的山岭，城市为松林翠柏所环抱，郊区与自然乡村毗连，景色秀丽优雅，环境清新宁静。由于人口密度小又无工业区，堪培拉享有“天然首都”之美誉。其主要景点有：

旧国会大楼(Old Parliament House)

建于1927年，是联邦议会会议大楼。曾有两次大的扩建。自新国会大厦于1988年落成后，它即完成了长达61年的使命，成为一座历史博物馆。

国会大厦(The Parliament House)

于1988年正式启用，是澳洲最受赞美的建筑。这里免费参观，除圣诞节全年有350多天开放。国会大厦坐落在首都山(Capital Hill)上，气势雄伟宏大。

格里芬湖(Lake Burley Griffin)和库克船长喷泉(Captain Cook’s Memorial Fountain)

格里芬湖于1963年由人工建成，周长35公里，面积为704公顷。格里芬湖把市区分成两大部分，北侧为都市山，南侧为首都山。湖心有为纪念库克船长上岸200周年而建的“纪念库克船长喷泉”，喷水时水柱高达137米。湖中的阿斯彭岛上建有一个钟塔。它是英国为纪念堪培拉50周年而赠送的。其中大钟重达6吨，小的只有7公斤，共有53个。

Lake Burley Griffin, built in the 1920s, is an attraction you can’t miss for two reasons—one is that it is a great place for picnics and relaxing with plenty of water activities to try as well as visiting the parks and gardens that surround it. The second is because it is actually a man-made lake and holds great attractions such as the Captain Cook’s Memorial Water Fountain, The National Capital Exhibition, Blundell’s Farmhouse and the Carillon, which can be found on the lake or around its shores.

Captain Cook’s Memorial Fountain situated at Lake Burley Griffin is a memorial to the discovery of the east coast of Australia by Captain James Cook in 1770. This impressive fountain shoots a towering jet of water into the air which on a windless day can reach a height of 440 feet. It was officially activated by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 25th of April 1970.

Old Parliament House located at King George Terrace, was built in 1927 and was only intended as a temporary home for the government of the young federation and was finally replaced in 1988. Part of the building has also been changed into the National Portrait Gallery, with a large collection of modern Australian pictures and is well worth a visit. Parliament House located on Capital Hill, is an impressive complex, completed in 1988. The construction cost 1.1 billion Australian dollars and was designed by the American architectural firm Mitchell, Guirgola and Thorp, who were keen to ensure the building mixed into the sites natural surroundings. Guided tours are available and there is public access to arguments in both the House of Representatives and the Senate viewable from the public galleries.
