【用法】1. 表示“属于”时，通常与介词 to 连用：The bike belongs to me. 这辆自行车是我的。2. 表示“适合在某处”或“放在某处”时，其后可根据情况可选用不同的介词( in, on, under 等)或接副词：Where does this book belong? 这本书应放在哪儿呢? 注：以上两种用法中的belong没有进行时态；也没有被动语态。

beside[bI5saId] prep.在…旁边；靠近：His argument is beside the subject. 他的议论离开主题了。/ Birds gather in large numbers beside the river. 鸟儿一群群地聚在河边。

【辨析】beside 与 besides：都可用作介词，但前者指“在…的旁边，靠近”，后者指“除…以外(还有)”。

besides[bI5saIdz] prep.除…以外(还有)：There are many others, besides me. 除了我以外，还有其他许多人。adv.还有，此外：Peter is our youngest child, and we have three others besides. 彼得是我们最小的孩子，我们另外还有三个孩子。

【辨析】1.besides 与 beside：参见beside。2.besides, but, except：三者都可表示“除外”，但 besides 表示一种累加关系，意指“除了什么之外还有…”；而 except 或 but 则表示一种排除关系，意指“除了什么之外不再有…”：Besides his girlfriend, his mother also went to see him. 除他女朋友外，他妈妈也去看过他(即女朋友、妈妈都去看过他)。/ Nobody went to see him except [but] his mother. 除他妈妈外，没有一个人看过他(即只有他妈妈去看过他)。注意：在否定句中，besides 也表示“除…之外不再有… ”，与but, except 同义：No one passed the maths exam besides [except] Jim. 除吉姆外，没一个人通过数学考试。
