(2) 用完,耗尽 I’m running out of patience. 我快没有耐心了。 I’m afraid we’ve run out of petrol. 我们的汽油怕已用完了。 ◆break out (火灾、战争等)突然发生或爆发 A fire broke out during the night. 夜间发生了火灾。 The 2nd World War broke out in September, 1939. 第二次世界大战爆发于1939年9月。 Influenza usually breaks out in winter. 流感通常发生在冬季。 注:是不及物动词,所以不能带宾语,也不能用于被动语态。 ◆work out (1) (计)算出 He worked out the maths problem in five minutes. 他五分钟就算出了这道数学题。 He told me to work out the exact figures. 他叫我算出确切的数字。 (2) 制订出,研究出,想出,作出 I’ll try and work something out. 我要设法想个办法出来。 We must work out a plan as soon as possible. 我们必须要尽快制定出一个计划。 (3) (有)结果,产生结果 Things worked out quite well. 事情的结果很不错。 ◆put out (1) 扑灭,使熄灭 He put out the light and went out. 他关了灯就出去了。 (2) 生产 We put out 200 000 tons of steel every year. 我们每年生产200 000吨钢材。 (3) 公布,发表,出版 The government will put out a new statement next week. 政府下星期将发表一项新的声明。 (4) 打扰,使不高兴 Will it put you out if bring another guest? 要是我再带来另一位客人,这可以吗? 注:这样的 put out 常用过去分词作表语。如: He is very put out. 他很不高兴。 He feels rather put out about it. 他对这件事很不高兴。 |
