according通常不单独使用，一般与to连用构成短语according to，见下一词条。

Everything went off according to plan. 一切都按照计划实现了。

according to my watch it is five o’clock. 照我的表，现在是五点钟。

Our work is coming along according to schedule. 我们的工作正在按计划进行。

The work was done according to her instructions. 那工作是依照她的指示做的。

Each man will be paid according to his ability. 每个人将根据他的能力获得报酬。

The teacher lined the students up according to height. 老师把学生按个儿高矮排好队。

A good driver varies the speed of his car according to the condition of roads. 优秀的司机会根据路况不同而改变车子的速度。

When it is taken according to the instructions, the drug has no side effects. 若按说明服用，本药无任何副作用。

【用法说明】

(1) 通常指的是根据别人或别处，而不能根据自己，所以它不能用于第一人称，同时也很少用于第二人称，而主要用于第三人称，如：

不能说：according to me, she is not honest.

但可说：according to him, she is not honest. 据他说，她不诚实。

(2) 用于此义的 according to后习惯上不接view(看法)和opinion(意见)这类词，如：

不能说：according to my opinion, the film is wonderful.

可改为：In my opinion, the film is wonderful. 依我看，这部电影很不错。

【易错辨析】

according as与according to的区别：

两者均可表示“根据”，其区别如下：

(1) according as相当于连词，其后接从句。如：

Everyone contributes according as he is able. 每个人根据自己的能力作出贡献。

You will be praised or blamed according as your work is good or bad. 根据你工作的好坏，你会得到表扬或批评。

According as you are studying now, you won’t make much progress. 根据你现在学习情况来看，你不会有多大的进步。

(2) according to是介词，其后原则上只接名词或代词，不接句子。但是，对于那些由what, which, whether, how, when, where等引导的句子，其前要用according to，不用according as。如：

He is an honest businessman, according to what everyone says. 根据大家所说，他是位诚实的商人。

The amount of tax people pay varies according to where they live. 居住地不同，人们所交的税额也各不相同。

They asked him to leave the meeting, and accordingly he went. 他们要他离开会场，因此他就走了。
